Psycho - Muse
Muse are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. Muse released their debut album, Showbiz, in 1999, and have since propelled themselves to new heights through their unusual mix of rock, pop, and even sometimes classical genres. Much of their music, especially the album 'Drones', is fixated on political issues. Sometimes the issue in question can be clear, and other times the song and whole album can be a metaphor for a general area or repeated motif of protest, such as the topic of government surveillance. This makes muse an ideal choice for a protest music video, as their emotive style can have a powerful effect when matched with an equally moving video.
This particular song was the best choice for a protest music video, because it focusses on the discontent people, especially younger generations have, with war and the feeling of being controlled by a higher authority. The main focus of the song is on the brainwashing and indoctrination of armies around the world into obeying orders and doing what they are told, such as in the lyrics, it says, 'I could use someone like you, Someone who'll kill on my command, And asks no questions'. However, there are also other political issues hinted at within the song, such as the aforementioned government surveillance. This leaves many opportunities for which direction I can take my music video, giving me much creative freedom when planning and filming.
